Whiting (fish)
( Added:Thu Jan 12 2006)
|
| In the USA, the name whiting on its own is often used for various species of hake, genus Merluccius. In Canada, it is used for the Alaska pollock Theragra
chalcogramma. Like the true whitings, these are all members of the order Gadiformes. In India and Australia, the name whiting (though usually with an adjective
before it) is used for various species of the genus Sillago, in the smelt-whiting family Sillaginidae, which is in the order Perciformes.

Zebra Danio
( Added:Thu Jan 12 2006)
|
| The Zebra Danio or Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio or Danio rerio) is a tropical fish, commonly kept in aquaria, belonging to the minnow family (Cyprinidae). The fish
is named for its five uniformly, pigmented, horizontal blue stripes on the side of the body; all extending to the anal fin onto the end of caudal fin rays of its tail. Zebra
Danios are of no economic importance in commercial fisheries as a food fish, but very commonly known and popular in the aquarium trade. They are hardy fish and
considered good for beginner aquarists. This species has been called one of the "bread and butter" fishes because of it's ease of keeping, continued popularity and
it's favorable price and availability.
